I’m skipping ahead in my Nicaragua trip narrative, but after this post and this post, I feel something light-hearted is warranted. Because this trip wasn’t spent in constant fear of thieves.

Overall, Kirk and I lucked out. We weren’t robbed, we had no bad run-ins with the police, and encountered not a single Nicaraguan who wasn’t nice to us. Even after we decided we needed to return some bottles of rum to the grocery store (because in all our excitement ogling the rum selection in the liquor aisle, we forgot we didn’t have a checked bag to get liquor on the plane) the employees, all smiles, did everything to help the two idiot gringos who couldn’t speak Spanish get their money back. De nada, de nada. Fortunately, we could thank them.

On to photos from Magnific Rock, a hotel perched atop a rock outcropping with panoramic views up and down the coastline. We stayed here the last two nights of our trip. It was here we spent Kirk’s 30th birthday, where we enjoyed gorgeous sunsets, excellent food, surf sessions and magnificent views of the ocean. ☼
