My 27th birthday happened this month. I think I’m officially in my “late 20’s.” Gah.

Kirk took me out to sushi, at Shimbashi Izakaya in Del Mar.

You can’t see it, because we make better doors than windows, but a lovely view of the ocean is behind us.

I had a ‘Del Mar Beach’ cocktail, made with shochu (a Japanese distilled beverage), calpico (a Japanese uncarbonated soft drink), soda and Blue Curacao. A delightfully girly–yet surprisingly strong–cocktail.

Kirk ordered a Rainbow roll; I had to have a roll with shrimp tempura.

We watched the sun go down.

To top off dinner, I got a free birthday dessert: lychee sherbet and pear pie. ☼
