Riding to the ocean is different than going to the beach. The beach requires swimsuits, sunscreen, towels and reading material. Probably snacks, maybe even a picnic. The beach requires planning.

Riding to the ocean is simple. There’s no plan, just a “Wanna go to the ocean?” and we’re off. Riding can take two forms, either on longboards or beach cruisers; but most often, it’s the latter. Most weeknights, Kirk and I’ll race to see the sunset. On weekend mornings, after picking up a donut from Super Donuts on Grand & Roosevelt, we’ll sit on a park bench and watch the waves. ☼
